Founded in 2020 in Bullaun, County Galway, The Bullaun Ark is a biodynamic regenerative farm built around a simple belief: that growing food should strengthen the natural systems on which we depend.

The farm produces a diverse range of vegetables, herbs, edible flowers and unusual food crops for Galway restaurants, local markets and families throughout the region. But The Bullaun Ark is about more than food production. It is a place of observation, experimentation and regeneration, where soil, biodiversity, ecology and agriculture are treated as parts of the same living system.

Under the direction of founder Charles Carr, the farm combines biodynamic and regenerative practices with a deep curiosity about how food can be grown more intelligently. From rebuilding soil and creating habitat for wildlife and pollinators to cultivating rare and lesser-known edible plants, the farm continues to explore what a more diverse and resilient food system can look like in Ireland.

That same thinking has also extended beyond soil. As co-founder of Emerald Aquaponics, Charles is applying many of these principles to water-based food production, bringing fish, plants, microorganisms and water together within efficient recirculating ecosystems.

Whether on land or in water, the philosophy remains the same: work with natural cycles, use resources carefully, reduce waste and create food systems in which every part has a purpose.

The Bullaun Ark is a working farm, a living ecosystem and a place to explore a better relationship between food, people and the natural world.
